In order to strengthen our Academy team we are looking to hire a Academy Technical Trainer (Consultant), based in Englewood Cliffs, NJ. 

 

In this position, you will focus on delivering technical training related to performance vehicle systems, diagnostics, repair processes, and advanced technology integration. The Academy Technical Trainer will be responsible for educating internal teams, external partners, and dealerships on a wide range of vehicle systems, including high voltage systems and safety protocols. The ideal candidate will have hands-on automotive experience, a deep understanding of performance vehicle technologies, and the ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and effectively.

 

As part of the team, your main responsiblities will be:

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Conduct Training Sessions: Deliver engaging, high-quality in-person and virtual training sessions on performance vehicle systems, diagnostics, repair processes, high voltage systems, and safety protocols to internal teams and external partners, including dealerships and service providers.
  • Manage Training Calendar: Oversee the training calendar and course rosters, ensuring the timely scheduling and execution of training events and managing participant engagement.
  • Training Needs Analysis: Assess knowledge gaps and identify training needs across teams, departments, and the broader network, ensuring training programs are aligned with business goals and the latest industry trends.
  • Assess Learner Performance: Evaluate learner progress and provide constructive feedback, ensuring that participants meet learning objectives and develop the required technical skills.
  • Curriculum and Material Development: Collaborate with subject matter experts to develop or update training materials and curriculum. Support the continuous improvement of instructional content based on learner feedback and evolving performance vehicle technologies.
  • Cross-Department Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, including Service, Engineering, and Product teams, to stay informed about product updates and technological advancements that may require updates to training content.
  • Maintain Knowledge and Certifications: Keep knowledge up-to-date through continuous learning, attending HQ or local certification programs (e.g., ASE certification), and staying abreast of industry trends and advancements.
  • Tool and Equipment Support: Provide training on the proper use, maintenance, and calibration of specialty tools and equipment used in performance vehicle diagnostics and repair.
  • Internal Support: Serve as a resource to Help Desk and Technical teams, providing guidance on technical issues, repair processes, and troubleshooting as needed.
  • Academy Support: Assist the Academy Manager with various Academy activities, special projects, and additional tasks as requested. Occasionally host internal technical/product training sessions for staff and management.
  • Travel Support: Travel occasionally for off-site training events or dealer visits. Travel is typically <10% of the time and may require short-notice arrangements.

In order to succeed in this challenging role:

 

  • Automotive Technical Expertise: Minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience in automotive diagnostics, repair, and maintenance, with a strong understanding of performance vehicle systems, components, and technologies.
  • High Voltage Systems Knowledge: Experience with the diagnosis and repair of high voltage systems, including hybrid and electric vehicle technologies, is essential.
  • Technical Communication Skills: Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to break down complex technical information and engage learners effectively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Tools: High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook), and experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS) is a plus.
  • Problem-Solving & Organizational Skills: Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, handle dynamic situations, and adapt to change with ease.
  • Work Ethic & Integrity: A strong work ethic, integrity, and commitment to quality and excellence in every aspect of the training process.
  • Flexibility & Adaptability: The ability to work in a fast-paced, ever-evolving environment, adjusting training delivery methods and materials as required.

The following skills are required to perform the role: A degree in a relevant technical field (e.g., Automotive Technology, Engineering) is a plus but not required. ASE Master Technician or other industry-specific certifications are highly desirable. Previous experience in a formal training role or instructional design is a plus.
