Above all Ferrari is an international team working with the highest level of professionalism and dedication, based on performance, meritocracy and continuous development, with innovation at the heart of our future.
In order to strengthen our Powertrain Simulation & Know-How Team, we are looking for a Senior Fluid Dynamics Simulation Specialist, based in Maranello.
In this position, your mission will be to develop and refine engine models in 0D, 1D, and 3D environments, focusing on in-cylinder combustion simulation using advanced 3D CFD tools.
As part of the team, you will be responsible for:
- Design and optimization of cylinder head ducts, injector spray, spark plug and pre-chamber, and piston for gasoline engines.
- Simulation of discharge coefficients and charge motion in cylinder head ducts and combustion chambers.
- Simulation of mixing processes within the combustion chamber.
- Spray simulation and correlation with experimental injector spray characterization in test vessels.
- Development of fuel surrogates and correlation with experimental fuel characterization in terms of laminar flame speed and ignition delay time using 0D chemical tools.
- Combustion simulation, correlation with experimental engine results, and development of turbulence, combustion, quenching, heat transfer, and emissions models.
- 1D simulation of gasoline internal combustion engine performance.
- Simulation of innovative fuels (e-fuels and hydrogen).
- Leading experimental setups for new model validation.
- You will collaborate with both internal stakeholders and external partners, including universities, research centers, CFD software providers, and suppliers, to validate and develop models, drive continuous improvement actions, and develop innovative methodologies and content.
Required Profile
In order to succeed in this challenging role, you will ideally have achieved excellent academic results in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related field, and you have at least 5 years of experience in in-cylinder gasoline spark-ignition CFD 3D simulations. Experience supported by a PhD in these areas will be considered a strong plus.
Ideally, you have gained experience in other Automotive Companies or in high-tech, innovative or engineering sectors. Proficiency in CFD 3D tools for in-cylinder simulations (Siemens STAR-CCM+ and Convergent Science CONVERGE) and 1D simulation tools (GT-SUITE / GT-Power) is highly valued. Familiarity with CAD software is appreciated.
